The Council for Countering Online Disinformation (CCOD) is a member organisation and advocacy group designed to fight back against the growing challenge posed by online disinformation.

With the world entering a new technological era, influencing opinion and human decision-making through false and misleading content has never been so easy. Ofcom now estimates that more than four in ten have been exposed to online mis/disinformation, with seven in ten of those exposed having seen it online. Meanwhile, according to the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, approximately six in ten are worried globally about what is real and what is fake when it comes to news online. The matter has been made worse by the deregulatory stance taken by the Trump administration, which wishes to see regulatory requirements in both the UK and the EU lifted from major U.S. tech companies.

The CCOD is the only actor of its kind aimed at defending the information integrity field and championing all its various stakeholders to policymakers and the UK government. Founded by the minds behind Polis Analysis, a non-profit organisation, the CCOD draws upon the considerable advocacy and research experience of the Working Team and the technical and political insight of an expert Advisory Board, whose backgrounds range from politics to academia, journalism, and regulatory bodies. Working together, these two entities enable a coordinated, informed, and impactful approach to tackling online disinformation, which delivers on our core mission.
